A. Traditional high school experience. Football games. Prom and a cute guy. SCHOOL SPIRIT!!! Happy-go-lucky.
or
B. Do what you want.
I guess I'm kinda in denial. I don't know. Something inside me says, "Just do what everyone else is doing. Go to prom. Participate during school spirit weeks. You'll never get it back."
But another voice inside my head, one a bit quieter is saying, "You're better off doing what your comfortable doing. Show the world just how much you're willing to stay true to yourself. Scare people."
It's just...
which one is right?
I don't know.
ReplyDeletePretty in Pink taught us that if you miss prom, you'll regret if for the rest of your life. But who am I to quote a John Hughes movie like that out of the blue?
I don't even really know what you're talking about, so I guess I can't really offer very good advice. It just seems like the best option to go to prom in most situations. I don't know.
You can always go both ways right? I went to my high school prom, but our school lacked so much spirit that all the other activities weren't really around, so I wasn't around. The point is to make your time, wherever you are worth it.
ReplyDeleteThere is no simple answer for this. It's what you want. It doesn't really matter, in my opinion at least, to think about what you'll feel about feel later on about your choices NOW is silly. So go with what you feel now. It won't hurt to go to prom. The spirit days, don't really matter. Personally, I like doing my own thing. Usually people don't even participate because of spirit, they do because they don't want to be different. So it all comes down to you and what you want NOW. Hope this helped. :)

i think that you'll only regret the things that you don't do,
ReplyDeletei think that one day in the future, you may regret no going to prom, but i doubt you'll regret going
so, i think that you can go to prom, and still be yourself. actually, i think it would be easier to "scare people" by going to prom, then staying at home. especially if that's what everyone expects you to do.
i really love your blog :)

I would go to prom(we call it a school ball in western australia!) and as rose said you'll regret it more if you don't go. I was actually considering not going to my school ball, I felt like I had no real friends and that I could easily have felt like a loner but I didn't- my school isn't that community spirited but this was one of the best things that happened during my 5 years at highschool and everyone embraced each other, regardless of whether we talked at school much.
ReplyDeleteI say go for it- you have nothing to lose.
Sometimes it's fun to be a princess for a day...
ReplyDeleteenjoy school while it lasts. :)
ReplyDeleteI don't think you should look it as who you're pleasing or whether you should be fitting in it-or not as it is. Rather just think fuck it what would be the most fun!
ReplyDeletedo what you like and like what you do...optomisim can take you anywhere.
ReplyDeleteBe true to yourself. Don't let anyone else change who you really are. Ordinary experiences are overated. Maybe in a few years years you'll regret it. But when you dig deep down you'll find regret is often fueled by outside influences and what other people think you should do and what other people say. You may think it's a mistake but never ignore that little voice inside you chances are that's what you really want and what's good for you. Even if it's not remember this: life is full of regrets and mistakes. Life is full of risks. But at the end of the day it doesn't matter what everyone else does. Don't change yourself for anyone else. Just be you. Do what you think is right.
